Introduction

We’re shooting with the Nikon Z9 in dog detection mode (yes, that’s actually a thing) paired with super-fast prime lenses to track focus and capture pet sessions with the energy and feel of dynamic motion videos.

In the animated GIF to the right, we used Nano Banana to build several immersive environments. We then took one of those frames and dropped it into the sequence of still frames.

In the video above, a handful of those still frames were transformed into a full motion clip using Luma AI. Check out the links below to see how we’re experimenting with AI video tools to both animate and intelligently fill in frames for these fast moving sequences.

Luma AI

This sequence features an energetic Bassett Hound pup captured running from Point A to Point B, floppy ears and all. It was then brought to life with Luma AI. The original images were shot outside of our greenscreen studio using natural north light and only the gorgeous fill of the bright white concrete of the bay, then transformed into a seamless animated moment through an AI Alsace Forest in France, an historic place where Bassets were used to hunt.

Luma AI

This sequence features a spirited Blue Tick Coonhound captured with our trainers running typical Point A to Point B sprint with a slight veer thrown into the middle. It was then brought to life with Luma AI. The original images were shot on location using natural light and some fill along the route, then transformed into a seamless animated moment that preserves the energy and spirit of his run.

Pika AI

In this sequence, shot at 20 frames per second, we used Pika AI to generate the in between frames and smooth out the motion between selected stills. Since the dog’s positions varied quite a bit from frame to frame, this interpolation made a big difference, reducing choppiness and creating a much more natural flow. It’s not perfect, but it worked surprisingly well.

Consistent Visuals Without Location Constraints

Consistency across a series of images is essential, particularly when working with branding and marketing clients who need cohesive visuals. Using a greenscreen setup in or outside of our studio, paired with generative AI tools, allows us to maintain that consistency while offering significantly more flexibility in creative direction.

The image here shows a before-and-after of a Blue Tick coonhound, photographed on greenscreen. With tools like Adobe Generative AI, we’re able to generate multiple background options that match key technical elements, such as camera angle, lighting conditions, and lens characteristics, which helps maintain a unified aesthetic across the set.

Shooting In A Pet Photography Studio Helps Image Consistency Across Campaigns

Achieving this level of visual alignment manually would typically require carefully planned location shoots or hours of searching for matching backgrounds. By incorporating AI into our workflow, we’re able to streamline that process and explore a wider range of visual possibilities without sacrificing consistency. And our outdoor space has some of the most amazing natural light from morning to evening with a ton of bounce fill from the white buildings in our warehouse bay.

This approach also lays the groundwork for the next step in the project—where we use Luma AI to animate the environment and add depth and movement to the scene.
